Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A view from the hotel as the sun hits the rocks at sunrise.

Located in the heart of Provence, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a small medieval village on the side of a hill, renowned as much for its gorgeous wine as it is for the ancient chateau that stands guard above. From the chateau, you have an outstanding view in all directions, taking in seemingly endless vineyards and the Rhône River just a few kilometres to the east.

The region is noted for its large round stones that absorb the heat during the day and radiate it back into the vines during the evening, making for a Grenache that is both insanely delicious and highly sought after.

Soaked in as much history as wine, the Roman architectural masterpiece, the Pont du Gard, is just down the road, or river, should you decide to embark on a highly recommended kayak tour.
